Searching for Baya, Algeria’s Painter of Color

Carrefour du Maghreb
Juliette Rengeval , RFI Radio, February 14, 2026

On the occasion of the exhibition “Et tout devient couleurs” at the Grand Mosque of Paris, Carrefour du Maghreb revisits the life and work of Baya. This young orphan, who became the darling of modern painting and was admired by Breton and Picasso, found in her Kabyle roots a rich source of motifs and colors.
